Botswana & Zambia 2019 is a charitable initiative led by families and friends from Bearsden, Scotland.
The idea was to provide a cost effective & authentic grassroots opportunity to a life changing volunteering experience that their sons could collectively share at the end of their 6th and final year of school.
The Wright family who will see 3 generations take part in this life changing adventure will project manage the trip with the support of the extended group. The Wright family connection to Botswana & Zambia past and present was key to the project's conceptualisation.
The group's desire to have an alternative option to main stream businesses which entice school leavers to consider volunteering at the end of their schooling life was the driving force behind this very bold and homegrown enterprise.
7 childhood friends all in their final year of school at Bearsden Academy and 4 dads will journey to Botswana and Zambia in July 2019 for the duration of 1 month (check out the itinerary).
At the heart of the trip will be a 10 day stay with the Home for AIDS Orphans organisation, a charity based in Mwandi, Zambia. The team will work with other volunteers and charity workers from across the globe to support the local community in building traditional mud huts that will provide a safe and stable home for children and families affected by the AIDs pandemic that continues to sweep across the country.
The group also hope to further support the Home for AIDs Orphans organisation by raising enough funds to cover in part or full the cost of building a much needed 2nd classroom facility. Click here to donate to this great cause
